Protecting your docks and boats from the ice with a de-icing system
These pictures show how heaving ice can warp and literally destroy a dock. A dock or boat that is encased in ice can suffer expensive damage as the force of ice and the gradual movements of the ice sheet can actually split a dock into pieces. Collars of ice can form on pilings and dock footings causing catastrophic structural failure and icebound boats can experience extreme mechanical damage if they become locked in ice.

As it is often not practical to remove large docks or boats from the water a deicer is your best insurance against serious ice damage. Deicers come in two basic categories: submersible motor types such as our Kasco® brand de-icers and the air diffusion or "dock bubbler" type.

Using Bubble Tubing™ to Keep your dock free from ice
We recommend two different types of systems to prevent ice from forming around a dock a "dock bubbler" type or a submersed motor type; one uses a length or several lengths of air diffusing Bubble Tubing under or around the dock to circulate the deeper warmer water. A low cost compressor on the dock or nearby feeds air to a length of Bubble Tube™ and the rising boil of active bubbles bring warm water to the surface where it keeps ice from forming. Even a small linear compressor, which consume very little electricity, can produce enough air to create an active circulating movement under your dock due to the low operating pressure of our new air diffusion tubing.

One primary benefit of using this type of system is the cost of operations. A Bubble Tubing air diffusion deicer system will cost between 19 and 86 cents per day in electricity depending on the size of the compressor needed.

Other systems which use suspended submersible rotors require much greater HP and can cost anywhere from 94 cents up to 4 dollars per day to operate. The cost is only one consideration however and it is important to match your needs with the correct system. We can help recommend a size of compressor and length of tubing required for your dock. Not all deicing systems are created equal and some "dock bubblers" on the market appeal to the thrifty consumer with low prices. Keeping your dock or boat safe from ice damage means you are protecting your investment and there can be no margin for error. Our compressors are chosen for their reliability and incredible air output which means a strong and consistent bubble flow which means a constant water circulation that ensures zero ice buildup. If you already have a compressor you will only require the diffusion tubing. Our proprietary Bubble Tubing™ diffuser tubing is better than any bubbler tubing on the market, period.

KASCO® DE-ICERS
Using a suspended or fixed-mount 1/2 HP or 3/4 HP deicer
Kasco® deicers are specially designed to be suspended from a dock or boat. An optional horizontal float or universal dock mount enables you to position the deicer in very strategic positions. Mounted in either a vertical or horizontal position, the deicer circulates water to the surface, causing turbulence that reduces or eliminates ice formation.

To de-ice a shallow water area, direct the flow of warmer water from a deeper area into a shallower area. The deicer performs by drawing the warmer, denser water from the pond bottom and circulates it upwards towards the surface which prevents ice formation or melts existing ice. The deicers may be operated with the optional universal dock or piling mount. The deicer may be operated in either a vertical or several angle positions. The deicer can be adjusted to a maximum length of 10 feet from the mounting bracket. You may also use the optional flotation kit to create an elongated deicing pattern in either fresh or salt water. Ideal for shallow water areas or where water levels fluctuate such as tidal waters.

Kasco Deicers
The motor assembly is sealed in an oil bath for long life and has ball bearings that provide smooth operation. The guard and motor case are made of stainless steel. Depending on depth and the air temperature the 1/2 hp model generally keeps a 30'-50' diameter area from freezing, the 3/4 hp model keeps a 50'-75' diameter area from freezing. Each unit includes a motor, propeller, 20' of suspension rope, guard assembly, zinc anode and 25' of low-temperature-rated power cable. ETL-approved to UL standards. Two-year warranty is standard.
