Clearing your pond water? Amonia & Nitrates? Get BactaPur N-3000

XLG Bottle Clearing pond muck and algae
Bacta-Pur XLG for clearing freshwater ponds of algae and organic buildup.
This safe and natural bacteria contains a community of natural beneficial and non-pathogenic microorganisms, which have been selected for their ability to outcompete algae and dissolve organic sediments caused by leaves and decaying organic matter on pond bottoms. Helps cleanse water and eliminate odours.

Also used in more industrial applications to biodegrade lipids (fats, oils and greases), proteins, carbohydrates and other components typically found in organic waste. Bacta-Pur XLG is used for a variety of purposes within the areas of water quality improvement, such as BOD reduction and organic sludge degradation.

Bacteria and Pond Health
Principles of Pond Health Management

First of all, use of Bacta-Pur assures the presence of a balanced community of strains, which can produce all essential enzymes to digest the different organic components of manure. The enzymes produced and released by the bacteria cause solubilization of solids. The community of bacteria then works together where the by-product of the metabolism of one strain provides food for another.

Secondly, preactivation, the on-site technique of physiological engineering optimizes enzyme production, prior to bringing the cultures in contact with the solids to be digested. CO2 is an end product of bacterial activity. Bacterial growth decreases the quantity of carbon in the manure due to losses of CO2. This increases the relative concentration nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium and improves the fertilizer value of the treated manure.

Solids Reduction with Bacta-Pur

Bacta-Pur XLG is one of the most concentrated cultures available; the guaranteed minimal cell count exceeds 10x11 cells/ml, which is more than 1000 times other brands. Small regular doses are very effective. Best results will be achieved by spraying preactivated Bacta-Pur XLG over the surface of solids.

Calculate pond volume by multiplying the averages of the length, the width, and the depth. 1m3 = 1000 L, 1ft3 = 28.3 L. Other useful conversion factors: 1 kg = 2.2 lb.; 1 L = 0.264 gal US.

    Notes:
  • In problem cases use 2 liters/day for 4 weeks; then 1 litre/day
  • Areas treated with Bacta-Pur must be kept moist. In dry periods, apply bacteria in liquid under crust.
  • When solids build-up, or if there are odour problems, dissolve 5 kg of sodium-nitrate (fertilizer grade) in 5 gallons of water and distribute over the surface of the pit.
  • pH should be kept between 6.0-8.5.

Background

Intensive production of livestock such as chickens or pigs usually results in high levels of airborne ammonia. The degraded air quality stresses the animals, causes negative feedback on the production including decreased efficiency of food conversion and increased susceptibility to general diseases and specifically to pulmonary problems (e.g. pneumonia).

The bottom line is fundamental in all animal production:
More Stress = Less Profits. If we can decrease stress, we can increase profits.

Treatment Program

The ability of the Bacta-Pur System to lower airborne ammonia was tested over a period of 38 days in an egg producing facility in New Brunswick, Canada. The barn (15m x 45m) contains 12,000 chickens. The barn is cleaned in September, and air degrades over winter. This winter ammonia reached levels, which were causing the chickens to go blind. The treatment with Bacta-Pur began on May 15, 1995 for 4 weeks. Airborne ammonia was monitored with a Dräger tester as used by the government of New Brunswick. The air sampling, during and following the test period, was always conducted in the same place within the barn.

Five litres of Bacta-Pur XLG were mixed with 10 L of water and sprayed, with a small garden backpack sprayer, onto the manure 3 times per week for 3 weeks . The fourth week, Bacta-Pu was applied only once.

Results
Airborne ammonia dropped from nearly 60 ppm to 18 ppm, within 3 weeks of beginning the treatment. Ammonia levels only increased slightly to 25 ppm with the decreased rate of use of Bacta-Pur. Cessation of use of Bacta-Pur, however, resulted in the rapid return to ammonia levels above 40 ppm in spite of increased ventilation, in the end of June, as normally occurs in summer.
